    Frequently asked questions

How is the time on this site calculated?

The time is synchronised with the site's server, so it is right even if your device clock is wrong. The time zone is read from your device settings. Synchronisation sends only a few small requests to the server and no personal data. If you turn off the "Server time" button, your device clock is used.

Does Türkiye use daylight saving time?

No. Since 2016 Türkiye has used UTC+3 all year round, and clocks are not moved forward or back. Many European countries still change their clocks, so their time difference from Türkiye can shift by one hour during the year.

How is the week number calculated?

Under ISO 8601, weeks start on Monday and week 1 is the week that contains the first Thursday of the year. For this reason the first and last days of a year can belong to a week of the neighbouring year.

How is the time difference between cities worked out?

Each city's current UTC offset comes from your browser's time zone database (IANA), and daylight saving changes are applied automatically. "Ahead of you" and "behind you" always refer to your own time zone.

How do I change the clock style?

Swipe left or right on the clock; on a computer use the arrows or dots below it, or the arrow keys on your keyboard. The styles include classic and minimal analogue, digital, analogue and digital together, versions with or without the date, clocks with a monthly calendar, a flip clock, a clock in words, a ring clock and a big date. Your choice is remembered on this device.

How do I see the clock full screen?

Press the full screen button under the clock. To leave, press the same button or the Esc key. You can keep swiping between styles in full screen too.

Does the clock work independently of my device clock?

Yes. The time is synchronised with the site's server, so it shows the correct time even if your device clock is wrong, and it tells you how far your device clock is off. You can switch back to your device clock with the "Server time" button. The time zone is still read from your device settings.

Where can I see Turkish public holidays and Ramadan?

The yearly calendar page shows public holidays, bayram and eve days, kandil nights and the month of Ramadan on one calendar. The "Upcoming days" section on the home page tells you how many days are left until the next holiday.
